Bridgnorth cricket club submits plans for a new car park
The club wants to build a small car park to provide eight parking spaces.
A south Shropshire cricket club has submitted plans for a new car park at its ground.
Quatt Cricket Club, who have just finished fifth in the Shropshire County Cricket League Premier Division wants to improve its ground, just south of Bridgnorth.
In a planning application submitted to Shropshire Council the cricket club says it wants to build “a small car parking area to the west of the clubhouse to provide eight parking spaces and a bay for deliveries.”
The cricket club says the land where the car park is earmarked is “currently overgrown and inaccessible” and the proposed car parking area will be “surfaced in a compacted stone finish to enable maximum porosity for natural drainage to occur”.
However, the club concedes the proposed plans fall within the southern part of the Quatt Conservation Area but said: “The proposed development retains the important open and vegetated feature of the conservation area such that its impact is less than substantial.”
The cricket club was granted planning permission in 2010 for a 27 space car park on the western edge of the cricket ground, which was never built, and it could be constructed if the current, more scaled-down plans are refused.
In a statement to the council the cricket club said: “The spaces approved under the 2010 approval remain extant and could be implemented if necessary, but the club prefers the arrangements shown in the current application.”
The application is current under consultation and anybody that wishes to comment or view the planning application can do so at Shropshire Council’s planning register using the planning application number: 26/03114/FUL.
