Grant brings a saving of £3,750 off the cost of this new electric car.

Kia’s EV4 has seen its Electric Car Grant allowance increased to bring the full level of discount.

While the EV4 initially got the government’s Band 2 grant, this has since been upgraded to the full amount to bring a total saving of £3,750.

As a result, the EV4 now starts from £30,995 inclusive of the grant, making it the second-cheapest car in Kia’s range after the £26,995 EV2. Interestingly, it means that the EV4 is now cheaper than the smaller EV3.

Much of this is down to where the cars are produced. The EV3 is built in Kia’s native South Korea, whereas the EV4 comes from the brand’s Slovakian facility. Since the grant takes into account the emissions produced during the car’s shipping, the one which is built closer to the UK – and therefore uses less emissions to get here – gets a larger grant.

Kia says that while the EV4 is the first of its vehicles to qualify for the full UK grant, it expects that the EV2 will also get the allowance. That smaller model is also built in Slovakia.

The EV4 is available with two battery options of either 58.3kWh or 81.4kWh, bringing respective ranges of 273 and 362 miles. As standard, the EV4 can charge at speeds of up to 127kW, delivering a 10 to 80 per cent charge in under half an hour.
