The Welsh rockers were joined at the London awards by rock royalty Black Sabbath's Tony Iommi and Aerosmith's Joe Perry, who also won accolades at the annual event.

The group, which formed in 2012, secured the award with 2017 track In Bloom at the Islington Assembly Hall ceremony in London.

Delighted with their win, the band's members tweeted the news yesterday evening, saying the song 'means a lot' to them and they're 'glad it means something' to music fans too.

Midland metal legend and Black Sabbath icon Tony Iommi, meanwhile, won the Kerrang! Icon Award.

Birmingham-born Tony, who is often credited with effectively inventing heavy metal with his innovative sound and unique playing style, reportedly received a standing ovation when he collected his accolade at the end of the night.

Other stars celebrated at the annual presentation was Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl, who dedicated the band's award for Best International Band to the late Chester Bennington of Linkin Park, Slipknot and Stone Sour frontman Corey Taylor who was named the Kerrang! Legend winner, and Aerosmith's Joe Perry, who was presented the Kerrang! Inspiration Award by his Hollywood Vampires bandmate Johnny Depp.

Tony Iommi will discuss tales from his history with Black Sabbath and beyond at question-and-answer show at Birmigham Town Hall tomorrow night.
