Children from Claverley Junior School had the chance to read David Walliams' novel Grandpa's Great Escape.

Pupils from the school on Aston Lane, including nine-year-olds Harriet Beaman, Emily Connor and Ellie Warner, were selected to read the book.

The story follows the story of a World War Two veteran who often gets confused but is understood by his grandson Jack.

Together they embark on the adventure of their lives in an old war plane.

Jo Derrer, headteacher, said: "The children thoroughly enjoyed the books."

The youngsters had been working hard in class to write their own reviews of the book.

The latest book from Britain's Got Talent judge Walliams is illustrated by the award-winning artist Tony Ross and has been a described as "a daring adventure full of comedy and heart".

Walliams admits he draws inspiration from Dahl and describes comparisons as a "huge compliment". The Shropshire Star's second Book Club book last month was Stepdog, which was reviewed by staff from Telford's PDSA.

The romantic story is Nicole Gallard's sixth novel. She is a native of Martha's Vineyard in America, and writes an etiquette column for the Martha's Vineyard Times.

The book tells the story of a woman and her dog and the man who wins both of their hearts. The novel certainly won the hearts of this month's reviewers.

Isabel Smith said: "A love story with twists. A heart-warming and thought-provoking tale on the sometimes unconsidered bond between man and dog."
