The Drayton Arts Fest has been hailed a huge success by organisers after events around Market Drayton were held over the weekend.

The festival included bell ringing at St Mary's Church which saw the bell tower open to visitors who were given the chance to have a go themselves.

Pinxton Puppets also held productions in the town of 20 minute puppet shows based on some fairy tale favourites while street performers and circus skills were on show throughout the town.

Youngsters were able to take part in a variety of competitions and activities including a Bakeorama while others who had entered artwork to be selected for a calendar were awarded with their prizes.

Richard Priestly, one of the event organisers, said; "It was a really considerable success.

"We had four new events this year and all of them were well attended and seemed to be enjoyable to the people who went.

"We think it was all better attended than last year and we had some really good events on around the town.

"The dancefest in the Festival Drayton Centre was a full house and the choral events went very well as well.

"One thing that attracted a lot of attention was the exhibition on in the Market Drayton Museum showing the town through the ages.

"We also had lots of street performers that attracted dozens of children and their parents too.

"We are going to go away now and do some more analysis of how it all went and look at numbers, but our first impressions are that it went very well."

The annual event ran from Friday throughout the weekend and Mr Priestly said he wanted to thank all those who helped organise it as well as those who attended each event.
