A talented young pianist from Shrewsbury has beaten off stiff competition from around the country to win a Young Musician of the Year title.

The line-up reads like a Who’s Who of the best unsigned talent in Shropshire. Dozens of local groups are vying for the chance to become Shropshire’s Next Big Thing in a Shropshire Star competition, run in conjunction with BBC Radio Shropshire.

The last time Morten Harket performed in Birmingham it was at the huge NEC as part of A-ha’s farewell tour in 2010.
