John Barton, aged 30, who appeared on the 2010 series of the popular show has rejoined The Coach & Horses on Swan Hill in Shrewsbury, after a year out of day-to-day cooking.

Mr Barton's career break involved doing cookery courses and demonstrations around the UK followed by paternity leave after his wife Susan gave birth to their daughter Lily in May.

He said: "It's great to be back doing what I enjoy most which is preparing and cooking fantastic food. I learned a lot from teaching others but my real passion is doing the job myself. It's also great to be back at The Coach with my old friends and colleagues. I missed them when I was away!"

The Coach and Horses is one of the oldest pub restaurants in Shrewsbury's town centre.

Mr Barton says he aims to bring "some exciting new menus and cooking techniques" to the pub.
