The former Royal Academy of Music student, who modelled, sang in honour of Pope John Paul II and won numerous BRIT awards, has enjoyed a phenomenal career.

She has featured in the Sunday Times Rich List for nine years and has raised huge sums for charity.

She became a mother a year ago when she gave birth to a daughter in New York City, having started a relationship with American artist and film actor-director Andrew Levitas.

Jenkins is a friend of the Royal family, though has had one or two mishaps with them.

"I was invited to lunch at Buckingham Palace and there were only six guests," she recalls.

"I was 24 or 25 and very nervous. After pudding they brought round a piece of gauze, a large finger bowl-style-thing and a platter of fruit.

"I looked at this bowl thinking: 'gosh, what am I supposed to do?' But Her Majesty, who was sitting across from me, caught my eye, sensed my panic and guided me in what to do. So thoughtful. I'll always appreciate that."
