Iconic bridge bathed in colour at Ironbridge Christmas lights switch-on - with pictures and video

The skies above one of Shropshire's most recognisable landmarks exploded with colour to celebrate the start of the festive season.

Visitors piled around the Iron Bridge to see the fireworks display after the Christmas lights were switched on in the town.

Hundreds of people filled the streets of Ironbridge to browse stalls, drink mulled wine and take advantage of the late night shopping.

The lights were turned on by Telford Mayor, Councillor Rae Evans, with music provided by Wellington Brass Band, Anna Silvers and F1-11.

Children were able to get a glimpse of the evening's special guest, Santa Claus, taking a break from his preparations for Christmas.

After the switch-on, the sky above Ironbridge was lit up by this year's fireworks display.

Councillor Nicola Lowery said: "The Iron Bridge provides the perfect traditional setting. It provides the perfect environment for people who want that Christmas feeling.
