Organisers said they were delighted by the community event, which was organised by the Town Team for the weekend. It included over 40 stall holders selling a variety of local and regional produce, a host of street entertainers, and a huge programme of events and competitions in a marquee on the Adams Grammar School lawns.

Visitors enjoyed a wide range of hot and cold food, including Asian and African dishes, burgers, hot dogs and hog roast buns.

Mike Atherton, a member of the organising team, said: "We are absolutely delighted by the community response to this event. They came in their hundreds and had a great day out, so much so that some of the stallholders ran out of stock.

"It was clear that everybody who came along had a really enjoyable time.

"The success of an event like this is not just what it delivers on the day, often visitors to a successful event in a picturesque market town like Newport will return again and shop in the local outlets.

"One trader reported that they had had their best trading day since Christmas and two other newly-opened outlets took the opportunity to showcase their wares.

"It couldn't have happened without a lot of hard work and goodwill, the financial support provided in part by Telford & Wrekin Council's Pride in your High Streets programme, and generous donations made by local sponsors."
