And there will be an added bonus for one lucky race marshal who will have a ride up the track in the latest McLaren supercar.

Ready to drop the flag for the last event of the year are Paul Edwards and Matthew Everington from Sportscarhire, Shrewsbury, who will be attending the final speed hill climb meeting at Loton Park, Alberbury, this weekend. The specialist car hire firm will be taking along the very latest McLaren 570S model.

The 550bhp supercar is powered by a twin-turbocharged 3.8 litre V8 engine and has a top speed of over 200mph.

Martyn Silcox, secretary of event organisers Hagley Car Club, said: "Marshals are an essential part of any motorsport event and we are delighted Paul and his team are bringing this fantastic car along to the big British Championship meeting this weekend.

"We will be rewarding one lucky marshal, whose name is drawn from a hat, to have the ride of a lifetime.

"Marshals are all volunteers and we are fortunate to have a really professional regular team here at Loton Park. They stand out in all weathers to ensure the safety of both competitors and spectators alike and are trained to react to any incidents, so as a club we are extremely grateful for their efforts."

Mr Edwards said as a fellow speed hill climb competitor he was fully aware of the volunteer marshals's dedication.

Ludlow driver Scott Moran has already clinched his sixth British Championship this year but the remaining top 10 places and other championship titles are still up for grabs

Practice and qualifying takes place on Saturday with timed competition runs in programme order on Sunday. For further details visit www.hdlcc.com
