Karl Beattie was found lying on the floor of the prison during a Most Haunted investigation, after being separated from the rest of the team.

In what was described by Ms Fielding as one of the biggest paranormal investigations the programme had taken on, the former prison proved to be terrifying for the show's team.

The evening was a turbulent affair, with plenty of apparent ghostly activity happening all over the prison.

It was built in 1877 and witnessed a multitude of inmate suicides while it was in use. During the episode, which was shown this week, Mr Beattie was found lying on te floor.

Earlier, he had complained of feeling the sensation of someone or something kicking at his legs.

The episode also saw one cameraman shut in a room while an unknown entity hammered on the wooden door.

The team also heard the sounds of chilling whistling coming from around the prison prompting one crew member to utter the words "we're surrounded."
