The Vintage Piper and US classic aircraft and classic car meeting was held at Sleap Airfield, near Wem on Saturday.

In a first of its kind at the airfield, visitors were able to see a huge range of vehicles and plane – with some dating back to the 1930s.

The airfield, home to Shropshire Aero Club since 1955, also boasts fantastic panoramic views towards the Welsh hills for the visitors to enjoy.

Before the event Nathan Cross, airfield manager, said: "We have held similar events in the past but this is the first under the title of US classic. It was originally a World War II airfield so it is suitable for days and events like these.

"The airfield is always open to the general public and we welcome visitors any time."

Mr Cross said he hoped to have members of local Jaguar and MG clubs attending the event, as well as individuals who wanted to go along to show off their examples of classic cars.

The next major event to be held on the airfield will be a junior aerobatic event on the weekend of May 7 and 8.

Bosses at the airfield say this event, although the first time being run at Sleap, is already well subscribed.

Organisers say it will be a perfect opportunity for junior aerobatic pilots to hone their skills, improve on their experience and improve their aerobatic knowledge in the suitable environment of Sleap Aerodrome.

There will also be special guests and a BBQ.

And then on July 2 the airfield will host the return of the Bader Braves Day organised by the Douglas Bader Foundation.

Bader Braves is an initiative by the Douglas Bader Foundation to assist and advance children affected by limb loss.

On the day children registered through the Bader Foundation, along with their careers and families are entertained at Sleap for the day.

Shropshire Aero Club pilots will be on hand to offer them flights in a variety of aircraft from the location of Sleap Aerodrome.
