Film lovers of all ages turned out in force to make a town's first open-air movie show a festive success.

It was held underneath Bridgnorth Town Hall on Monday evening.

Two Christmas-themed films were projected on to the outdoor screen – Arthur Christmas and The Muppet Christmas Carol. The event had been organised by Westley Bone, of The Bridgnorth Music and Arts Festival, James Frizzell from the Majestic Cinema and Matt Branigan from the Friars pub.

The audience was seated on hay bales

Mr Bone said: "The event was a huge success and I would say it was amazing, but I think it goes even beyond that.

"It seemed to really spark interest in the town and beyond.

"We managed to seat everybody on hay bales kindly donated by the Friars Pub and the atmosphere was terrific, as was the reaction from the crowd, who even clapped when the first film finished."

The success of the event has led the organisers to look at putting on other open-air film events next year. Mr Bone said that another open-air film show has already been planned for next Christmas.

He said: "We have already confirmed that we will doing a show next December, as all the sponsors of this year's show said they are more than happy to support us next year. But we are also looking at whether we could hold open-air showings in other parts of the town through 2016 – perhaps one in the summer."

Mr Bone said that the reaction from people had been incredibly positive.

He said: "Everyone who was there as an organiser was approached by someone who wanted to say how great a night it was.

"When arranging this open-air show the biggest problem was getting the licence sorted, but now we have done that and it is there for us to use in future.

"The hard work has been done, now we can just look at planning more of these events now we know that the public really enjoy them."
