Christmas nativity at Ludlow Castle

The herald angels sang in a county town as living, breathing nativity scenes were played out in an annual street performance.

Ludlow Castle and the market square were the setting for the Christmas story, complete with actors, a real donkey and music from Ludlow Town Band as the living nativity went ahead despite the soggy weather.

The open-air performance is now a tradition in the town, put on by members of churches in the town, who come together for the occasion under the umbrella of Churches Together Around Ludlow.

Reverend Tim Coles, of Ludlow's Elim Christian Fellowship and chair of Churches Together, said: "It is something we have done for six or seven years now, and it has only been cancelled once because of wind and rain.

"Basically, every year I grab people from churches around town and ask them to get involved.

"The donkey comes from Shortwood Farm in Herefordshire and is provided free of charge, the castle is made available free of charge and Ludlow Town Band take part free of charge – the only thing we pay for are the mince pies and hot chocolate, which is what the churches contribute to."
