The Prince Charming singer was due to perform at The Buttermarket on March 31 as part of a new tour.

But he has now cancelled all dates in February and March, due to "circumstances beyond his control".

People with tickets can either get refunds or exchange them for tickets to his still-planned April shows.

Buttermarket owner Martin Monahan said the venue had been told the news last night.

"It is a great shame because there was a lot of interest," he said.

Adam Ant gained stardom with his striking look as the lead singer of new romantic/post-punk group Adam and the Ants and later as a solo artist, scoring 10 UK top 10 hits from 1980 to 1983, including three No.1s.

Hits included Prince Charming, Stand and Deliver and Goody Two-Shoes.
