Oswestry Christmas Parade preparations get underway

Organisers are already looking ahead to Christmas as preparations begin for one of Oswestry’s biggest and most popular community events.

The Oswestry Christmas Parade will return to the town centre on Saturday, December 5, bringing colourful floats, vintage trucks, dancing troupes and plenty of music to the streets.
And while summer is still in full swing, organisers are urging local groups, businesses and organisations to start thinking about getting involved in this year’s parade.
Jonathan Jones, who organises the event on behalf of Borderland Rotary Club, said now was the time for those hoping to enter a float to make contact.
“This is the time for groups and companies to take steps to apply to have a float in this year’s parade,” he said.
“It’s the community that organises the event and it’s the community that watches it, so it’s all inclusive.”
The popular parade has been a fixture in Oswestry since the 1950s and has been organised by Borderland Rotary Club for the past few decades.
It draws crowds into the town centre each year, with entries ranging from elaborate Christmas-themed floats to vintage vehicles and performers.
Organisers say it is the only Christmas parade of its size in Shropshire, making it a major date in the county’s festive calendar.
