Family Fest 2026 brings crowds and community spirit to Market Drayton

Market Drayton was brought to life on Saturday (May 2) as Family Fest 2026, organised by JDL Mini Markets & Events, attracted large crowds to the town centre.

With sunshine throughout the day, visitors enjoyed a wide range of free activities and attractions, making it a standout community event.

Stalls lined the streets offering a variety of goods, from cheeses and the town’s well-known gingerbread cakes to toys and games for children. The event also featured a busy community hub, where a tombola helped raise funds for local groups including the Girl Guides.

Entertainment was on offer throughout the day, with live performances, Morris dancers and circus games providing fun for all ages. Visitors also had the opportunity to see owls and lizards up close, which proved to be a popular attraction.

The indoor market remained open and busy, while the Buttercross hosted crazy golf, adding to the family-friendly atmosphere across the town.

A highlight for many was the appearance of the Gingerbread Man, who was seen around Market Drayton posing for photos with visitors of all ages.

The event drew a wide range of people, including local residents, holidaymakers staying in nearby glamping pods, and visitors from further afield such as Loggerheads, the Wirral, Birmingham, Whitchurch and Crewe. Many used the day as an opportunity to meet with family and friends.

Families with young children, teenagers and older residents all took part, with organisers and attendees alike praising the inclusive and welcoming atmosphere.

Further community events are planned in Market Drayton, with the next taking place on Saturday, June 13 in support of the monthly artisan market. There are also rumours that the Gingerbread Man may be making a return to Market Drayton during half term, encouraging visitors to keep an eye out around the town.
