West End Star returns to New Radnor for Pinter’s Masterpiece: The Dumb Waiter
A West End star is returning to the stage in Powys following a meteoric is in cinema and theatre.
Victor Ptak, a New Radnor resident is due to feature at Cannes Film Festival 2026, where he stars alongside Adam Driver and Miles Teller in James Gray’s highly anticipated film, Paper Tiger.
Stage audiences may also recognize him from his acclaimed lead role in the West End production of Heisenberg.
He will also be starring at The Old School Community Hub in New Radnor for a strictly limited engagement of Harold Pinter’s iconic suspense drama, The Dumb Waiter.
This production brings together high-calibre international talent and local roots, offering a rare opportunity to see world-class acting in the heart of Wales.
The Plot: A Room, Two Men, and a Message
Often cited as one of the most influential plays of the 20th century, The Dumb Waiter follows two hitmen, Ben and Gus, as they wait in a windowless basement for their next assignment.
As they bicker over tea, newspapers, and the semantics of ‘lighting the kettle’, a mysterious dumb waiter begins delivering increasingly bizarre food orders from above.
Tension spirals into a dark, comedic exploration of power, silence, and the mounting dread of the unknown.
The production stars two seasoned actors whose shared training brings a unique, electric chemistry to the stage.
Alongside Victor who stars as Ben will be Symon Hamer who plays Gus.
He is a veteran of both radio and stage, and brings a deep, intuitive physicality to the role of Gus. Growing up in Wales during the 1970s, Hamer’s return to a Welsh stage marks a homecoming for the performer, whose career has spanned diverse mediums and genres.
A spokesperson for the production team said; “Bringing a play of this intensity to New Radnor is a passion project. The energy in that room is going to be palpable.”
Both actors share a foundational bond. They are alumni of the same acting school, where they specialized in the Stanislavski and Strasberg methods.
This production marks a particular technical milestone, as Victor Ptak incorporates the Demidov Technique—a sophisticated evolution of the Stanislavski system focusing on spontaneity and organic flow—to the claustrophobic world of Pinter.
The drama will take place at The Old School Community Hub, New Radnor on Sunday, May 24 and Monday, May 25 at 8pm.
The production has been supported by the Arts Council of Wales and the National Lottery
