National Garden Scheme looks for new owners to open their gardens next year
Penultimate Powys garden opening coming up this weekend
The penultimate Powys garden opening this year is from Saturday, September 5 to Sunday, September 13, from 11am until 5pm, at The Hymns, Walton near Kinnerton, Presteigne LD8 2RA.
Timed to coincide with Herefordshire Art Week, the event is billed as a week united by the love of Radnorshire, Paradws Cymru or Paradise of Wales.
The art exhibition and a chance to meet Radnorshire Artists is free with a contribution of proceeds from sales going to the National Garden Scheme.
Visit the garden which continues to evolve, incorporating rainwater recycling, compost management, home propagation and plant rescue. Work in the woodland has created new structures and water retention improvement.
Admission is £6 for adults, children free, dogs welcome, and there will be plants for sale, and a café.
The National Garden Scheme is looking for new people to open their gardens in the future.
Opening your garden for the National Garden Scheme, gives people a great day out and raises money for nursing and health charities to help change lives.

A spokesperson said: “Whether you’re part of a group of small gardens or opening on your own, we’d love to hear from you. Rolling acres, cosy cottage borders, wildlife-friendly havens, or even a thriving community allotment—every garden has its own charm and each one offers visitors a unique, personal experience.
“You’ll become part of a community of fellow garden owners and volunteers who share your love of beautiful spaces. If your garden is approved by the local County Organiser, your garden will be
featured in our yellow Garden Visitor’s Handbook, county booklet and on our website. There are two ways to open, an open day(s) and/or by opening by arrangement for groups, where you specify the group sizes you can accommodate.
“We also welcome a number of gardens opening together in area, these prove very popular. If this is for you, please contact Susan Paynton – 01686 650531 or [email protected] or for those in South Powys [email protected]
“Other county volunteers are on hand to offer support with your opening.”
For anyone not quite ready to open their garden to the public yet, they can still get involved.
Why not join the annual community fundraiser and host a relaxed garden get together as part of the Great British Garden Party? Invite friends, neighbours and family to enjoy time together in your garden while supporting a wonderful cause.
By inviting small donations for refreshments or selling plants and home grown produce, you help raise vital funds for nursing and health charities supported by the National Garden Scheme—bringing communities together and making a meaningful difference to lives across the country.
