Tom Hounsell hails Wycombe’s strength in depth after win at Accrington

Two goals from corners saw Wanderers progress.
Wycombe head coach Tom Hounsell praised his squad’s strength in depth as he made eight changes but still saw his side run out 2-0 winners at League Two Accrington.
Wanderers are the highest scorers from set-pieces in League One this season and scored again from two corners to settle the FA Cup tie.
Defender Connor Taylor slotted home from an Aaron Morley corner after five minutes and in the 69th minute Luke Leahy’s delivery was headed home by Daniel Harvie as Wanderers secure their place in the second round.
Hounsell said: “The squad is talented and it’s got depth and we have told them, when they get the opportunity, they need to take it and on the whole they did that.
“It’s a difficult place to come and we were pleased we took an early lead, but I didn’t think we were great in the first half.
“We did have some moments where we looked like a threat, but I didn’t think we played great so we were happy to go in 1-0.
“In the second half, we were more solid and more aggressive in wide areas. I was just pleased to get another clean sheet and a good away win.
“We worked on set-pieces this week as we knew it would be an opportunity for us and it’s good when the players get their rewards.”
Stanley had been unbeaten at home this season and manager John Doolan was frustrated his side could not maintain that record.
He said: “It was a good first half. We had opportunities and we didn’t take them which isn’t like us.
“To get done by two set-plays is disappointing as we have been solid. We knew what to expect from them and the lads tried so we can’t fault them.
“It’s fine margins. We had moments which we haven’t taken and they took theirs.”
