Jon Brady happy to avoid a ‘banana skin’ in Scunthorpe as Port Vale prevail

The Iron began to rally in the closing stages of the game.
Jon Brady believes Port Vale are starting to gain momentum as his side squeezed into the FA Cup Second Round with a 4-2 win over Scunthorpe United.
The Valiants survived a late scare after taking a three-goal lead, but the hosts hung on to secure a seventh successive victory at Vale Park.
And Brady says he is delighted to have booked a place in the next round.
He said: “I was pleased we scored four goals. It’s a positive result and we’re into the hat.
“It could’ve been a banana skin because they had nothing to lose. We were a little bit sloppy at times, but overall I’m just happy to get through.
“(We went with a strong team) to keep building momentum and to get the win because we’re starting to connect well together.
“We made the change with Keyrol Figueroa up top which paid off, and it’s unfortunate that he goes away now. But we’ve scored 13 in three games here, so I’m really pleased.”
And Scunthorpe’s interim manager Jacob Butterfield says he was proud of his team’s performance as The Iron threatened a late comeback at Vale Park.
He said: “It’s disappointing to lose the game, but I’m proud of that performance today. The lads gave absolutely everything.
“We’ve come to a team a league higher than us who are in good form. They were very strong physically with some really talented individuals, so it was always going to be a tough game.
“But there was so much to like in that performance. We showed belief to come back into it at the end, and the attitude and spirit all the way through was really good.
“We played some great football at times too, so hopefully we’ve given the fans something to get behind and offered them some hope moving forward.”
