Cristiano Ronaldo has been included in Portugal’s squad by new boss Jorge Jesus for the upcoming Nations League fixtures.

The 41-year-old had said he did not expect to play at another World Cup after this summer’s tournament, but could yet be involved on the road towards the 2028 European Championship.

Jesus – who was Ronaldo’s club manager at Al-Nassr in Saudi Arabia, winning the league last season – replaced Roberto Martinez following Portugal’s defeat to Spain in the last 16.

Five-time Ballon d’Or winner Ronaldo is the all-time leading scorer in men’s internationals with 146 goals.

Manchester United’s Bruno Fernandes and Diogo Dalot are both also included in the squad, along with Chelsea’s Pedro Neto.

Portugal start their Nations League Group A campaign against Wales in Lisbon on September 24 and then play Norway in Oslo.

The final two matches of the extended international window see Portugal travel to Denmark before then hosting Norway in Porto on October 4.
