Wolves agree deal for defender to make loan exit

The centre-back’s future was still to be resolved after the English transfer window closed.

Wolves defender Santiago Bueno is poised to join Mexican side Club America on a season-long loan.

The Uruguay international has been searching for an exit route from Molineux after being left out of the club’s Championship squad.

He is now on course to join Club America in a deal which includes an option to buy.

In a further development, Wolves team-mate Pedro Lima is in discussions over a move to Brazil.

Bueno was one of several players left with uncertain futures following the club’s relegation from the Premier League.

The 27-year-old, who joined Wolves from Girona three years ago, had featured only as an unused substitute during the opening month of the season under new boss Cesar Peixoto.

Bueno had been keen to leave the club, though Wolves claim not to have received a single enquiry for him while the English transfer window remained open.

The move to Mexico helps reduce the club’s wage bill and is seen to be in the best interests of all parties, with Peixoto having also decided Bueno did not fit into his plans at Molineux.

Lima has also been deemed surplus to requirements and could now make a loan move back to Brazil.

The 20-year-old joined Wolves from Recife for £8.5m two years ago but has struggled to make an impact, making only one substitute appearance in the Championship this season.
