Unai Emery vows to take Aston Villa rebuild one match at a time

The Spaniard’s team are still searching for their first win of the season.

Unai Emery says Villa must take their rebuild one match at a time as they prepare to make their Champions League return.

Villa will head to Club Brugge on Tuesday night still seeking their first win of the season after Saturday’s 0-0 draw at Hull.

Emery found reasons to be optimistic after watching his team claim their first point of the Premier League campaign.

But despite a hectic fortnight now looming ahead of the first international break, he is looking no further than the next game.

“Now is no time to think two weeks or three weeks forward,” he said.

“We must try to focus on each match. The next match is the Champions League and something we can feel excited and motivated to play because we deserve to be there.

“Now it is to compete in Brugge on Tuesday. Then, we are going to think about the next match at home against Nottingham Forest.”

Of Villa’s 10 summer signings, four are still waiting to make their debut, with Ibrahim Mbaye an unused substitute at Hull.

“Each match is a lot of information we can have,” continued Emery. “We are collecting information individually and collectively about the players, about the structure, about the capacity to build the team.

“Saturday was one point. It was not enough but I am feeling optimistic about how the players are responding.”
