Rian O’Riordan opened his goal scoring account for the club when he scored the match-winner during the second half.

That extended the Robins’ unbeaten start to the season in the league and propelled them to their fifth win in six games in the Cymru North.

“Another great win for us. The way we moved the ball and played on our pitch today was great to watch,” head coach Jay Owen said.

“The way we passed it through them, got down the sides of them. We were patient with it and just the opportunities we created.

Newtown have also conceded just once in the league so far this term and have already equalled their total number of clean sheets from the previous campaign with their fifth shutout.

And Owen explained that strong defensive foundations have served as a strong platform for his side during the opening stages of the season.

“It’s something that we take pride on as the defensive structure, making sure we’re defensively sound first, before moving forward.

“But it’s always difficult to play against 10-men because they play with a lot more freedom and go all-out attack.

“If they do concede another then it doesn’t matter. We were 1-0 up and then it doesn’t matter to them if they lose 2-0 or 3-0.

“So it is sometimes harder to play against 10-men, but we were in control in the way that we defended.”

Owen continued: “If we could’ve been a little bit better on the turnover and then we could’ve put the game to bed.

“But I’m really pleased with the way that we came through it.”
