Put in to bat first, Welshpool reached 149 all out in their innings, Charlie Kinsey leading the way as he hit 41 not out from 42 balls.

Captain Sam Cadwallader, 15, Joe Cadwallader, 23 and Paul Chapman, 19, all chipped in with runs.

Throughout Newport’s response, Welshpool kept chipping away with wickets at regular intervals - but they remained in the game throughout their innings.

They were 103-8 with Welshpool then on top and sensing a win.

But Waqas Khan and Ollie Tellwright moved them on to 138/8, before Khan fellow just one run shy of a half century, with the home side on the ropes.

And nine runs from their total - Dan Cadwallader bowled Tellwright to take the win - as Mat Mcwhinnie and Rob Anderson finished with four wickets each.

Elsewhere, Guilsfield chased down a low total from Whitchurch Seconds to take a victory at the LHG Oval.

The Mid Wales hosts shared the wickets around as they bowled Whitchurch out for 109.

And Twinkle Jose continued a fine run of form with an unbeaten 68 from just 32 balls, putting on a 97 run first wicket stand with Andrew Flann as they cruised to victory inside 11 overs.
