A bid from a consortium fronted by Graeme Souness has already been rejected with the former Liverpool and Newcastle manager promising to make a statement later this week.

But Moxey is expecting to find himself out of work whoever succeeds Sir Jack.Moxey told a fans meeting: "Contrary to what the conspiracy theorists say, it is me who is trying to get this done - I am not trying to prevent it happening, even though it is like a turkey voting for Christmas.

"If it means every single one of the board disappears then so be it and anyone thinking differently in my position would be naive.

"If somebody is going to put money in, they will want someone they know and trust."

But he called into question the motives of Souness and his associates who, Moxey claimed, has broken a confidence with the club by going public on their bid.

Wolves have brought in City investment bank Rothschild to advise them on the takeover.

Moxey added: "I'm not going to say how many prospective bidders there are and we're not going to get drawn on who we're talking to.

"But we think we have the moral high ground because unlike Manchester United, Villa and other recent examples, we're not talking about wanting more to ensure a big fat cheque for Sir Jack. He will not have a penny.

"We will not buckle to the first bid."

Fellow director Kevin Threlfall said: "We only want Wolves to be sold once - to the right people. It has to be somebody with very deep pockets who can stand against the Randy Lerners (new Aston Villa owner). That's why we have gone with Rothschild."
