While McCarthy believes it is beneficial to have a large squad to cope with injuries and the upcoming fixture congestion, he admits he would be sympathetic to the wishes of players who want regular action if the circumstances are right.

McCarthy revealed winger Daniel Jones is one who is keen to get more first team football under his belt after failing to secure a major role since his return from Northampton.

The young utility man is wanted again by the Cobblers, where he spent the first six months of the season, but McCarthy does not want to lose him while there are still injury doubts surrounding winger Matt Jarvis.

"I'll possibly let a few out before the end of the season," McCarthy admitted.

"Daniel Jones would like to go back out on loan and play football - that would be more beneficial to him.

"But sometimes it's beneficial to the squad to have a big group of players.

"Matt Jarvis is injured again and Micky Gray played on Saturday, but the run of games coming up is going to be Saturday, then Tuesday, and six games in three weeks and then that puts a whole different perspective on it.

"We only trained with 12 out there on Monday - I want to make sure we have enough players to cope with injuries."

Meanwhile, McCarthy has confirmed that Jarvis is in line to return from his hip injury in time to face Colchester on Saturday.

"Matt is close to coming back - he may be involved at the weekend," he said.
