'Like a breath of fresh air' - Fer Lopez on life back at Wolves
Fer Lopez is enjoying life at Wolves.
Fer Lopez admits being back at Wolves is ‘like a breath of fresh air’ compared to his first year with the club.
The Spaniard was signed for £19.5million last summer but struggled for game time as he failed to adapt to English football’s physicality.
He made just nine Premier League appearances, mostly from the bench, before leaving in the winter transfer window to re-join his old club Celta Vigo on loan.
Lopez played more regularly back in Spain and has returned to Wolves a new player, having now scored three goals in his opening three games.
The player appears ready for English football on this occasion, happier in himself and his importance to the team, and says his return to the club has been a success so far.
Lopez said: “It’s very different, for sure. Like a breath of fresh air. Everything’s new.
“A lot of players came back like Tommy and Bouba. We hope we can add some new signings also, so we’ll see what happens.
“Today was a very good feeling, especially because it was quite a comfortable win. It was 3-0 until right at the end, so I was disappointed that we conceded. I didn’t like that, but that’s football.
“Now we have to focus on the Carabao Cup, recover as well as we can to be in the best shape possible.
“We have a lot of confidence now. We’re playing the type of football the coach wants from us, so it’s about continuing to build on that and getting better.”
Lopez is in contention to start again for Wolves as they take on League One opposition Sheffield Wednesday in the second round of the Carabao Cup on Tuesday evening, before focus then turns to the home clash with Stoke at the weekend.
