Cesar Peixoto backs striker to help get Wolves firing
The forward ended a two-month drought last weekend.
Cesar Peixoto has backed Adam Armstrong to help solve Wolves’ scoring struggles as his side look to rediscover their shooting boots against Cardiff.
Armstrong netted for the first time in more than two months in last weekend’s 1-0 win over Watford.
The victory lifted Wolves to fourth in the table ahead of Saturday’s clash with the Bluebirds but scoring has become an area of concern, with Peixoto acknowledging his team are too often letting opponents off the hook.
After scoring 13 goals in their first five Championship matches, they have netted just seven in the next seven and Peixoto said: “If you score more it is easier to manage the game.
“If you are two or three goals up then it is different in the second half.“But we are going to score. We are going to stay more confident.
“Now we have a long week to work, to recover the players, those who have played 90 minutes every game.”
Armstrong will be tasked with carrying the load up front with Raul Jimenez ruled out until January following knee surgery.
Teenager Sean Neave struggled to make an impact in two starts while Armstrong was absent with a back problem.
Asked if the latter would have renewed belief after scoring against the Hornets, Peixoto replied: “It is important for his confidence but he is an experienced player and I don’t believe he was losing confidence.
“He knows we have a lot of belief in him. He came back from injury and fought for the team.“He is going to score more for sure. I don’t have doubts about that.
“I said before it would happen and I hope now he will score more. We need it and we are creating the chance to score.”
The boss continued: “We have to score (more). We create the chances in the line of the goal. We shoot and kick at opponent players or it goes wide.
“But when we create I am more happy than in the first half against Portsmouth, when we didn’t.
“On Saturday we created more chances to score and win more comfortably.”
