West Brom striker reveals key ingredient in fuel for improvement this season
The Albion striker had mixed fortunes in his first season at the club.
Aune Heggebo insists Albion should use last season's disappointment as fuel for improvement in the new campaign.
The Baggies scraped survival in Heggebo's first campaign at the club thanks to a miraculous late run under head coach James Morrison, who was in interim charge.
The striker landed the club's top goalscorer award with 10, but admitted all players acknowledged they had significantly underperformed.
The Norwegian reckons that can inspire for the new season under Morrison.
"Definitely," Heggebo said. "I think that has to be the main driver every season, to keep on pushing for that.
"It's something you can put up and use for motivation every day."
The 24-year-old, a £4.7million recruit 12 months ago, added: "There has been quite a few ups and downs.
"It seems like so much more than a year almost because it's been so many different situations. It's been up and down and obviously it was a tough season but the year as a whole has been an experience that I'm so grateful to have had.
"To get the chance to play abroad for the first time when you come from Norway and played there your whole life and then standing in those situations where you're not delivering as you feel like you should be.
"I think all the players and even myself would say last season wasn't where it should be from so I'd say as a whole team, me included."
Morrison's 10-match unbeaten run to safety came after the Baggies looked in the lurch following Eric Ramsay's winless stint at the helm. Ramsay had succeeded Ryan Mason.
"We were in quite a low place but then we managed as a team and as a whole unit too," the striker said. "As a collective we pushed to get out of the hole we were in.
"That's the good thing, that we finished the season on almost a higher level. We proved to ourselves that we had it in us to get the results we needed and deliver at a much higher quality than what we did earlier in the season."
