James Morrison's 'hit the ground running' pledge as West Brom gear up for final four clashes

Albion impressed in latest draw on Friday night but rivals struck back on Saturday leaving nerves jangling...

Bullish boss James Morrison is confident Albion are ready to hit the ground running this week to secure survival.

The Baggies extended their unbeaten run to seven games with Friday night’s home draw with Millwall, but Portsmouth and Oxford victories on Saturday put a dent in the buffer to the bottom three.

Albion are now just two points clear of the relegation places with four games remaining, beginning with Saturday’s trip to mid-table Preston.

“The players were disappointed (with Friday) but they've got a few days to get over it, and then we'll hit the training ground running Monday,” Morrison said.

“I'm sure Monday will be positive, and ready to go for the next game.

“It was another clean sheet. It’s giving ourselves a chance when we're in games, because I know a lot of this season we've given stupid goals. We haven't given ourselves a mountain to climb, so the longer we stay in it gives us a chance.”

Morrison said of the latest stalemate: “I thought in the second half we played some good stuff, and we just need that one person with a bit of quality.

“We’re going to have a little bit of luck, and we're going to have to endure the tough spells, and that's how we came out of it.

“Same against Wrexham, we had a tough spell, and then we came out of it and we could have won it at the end there. We could be sitting here more relaxed, but we're not, but we keep going.”

Meanwhile, Albion under-21s are in Premier League Cup semi-final action against Burnley at Turf Moor on Monday night (7pm).

The Baggies youngsters are looking to repeat the feat from 2022, where they won the competition with a memorable penalty shootout against Wolves at The Hawthorns.
