Confirmed: West Brom midfielder Ousmane Diakite yellow card stance with ban threat for Wolves
Albion’s midfielder collected a fifth booking in all competitions.
Ousmane Diakite picked up a fifth yellow card in all competitions in Saturday’s 1-1 draw against QPR - sparking fears of a possible ban for next weekend’s Black Country derby against Wolves.
But the influential midfield powerhouse will not miss the Molineux showdown with an untimely suspension.
That is because the late caution against the Rs was only his fourth in the Championship.
Diakite was also booked in the EFL Cup second round defeat at Newcastle United, but yellow card totting up suspensions are competition specific.
Therefore the booking in Saturday lunchtime’s draw will not result in a one-match ban for next weekend’s eagerly-anticipated derby.
Diakite remains on the four yellow card tightrope and one league caution away from a one-match ban.
If he was to collect a fifth league booking at Molineux it would rule the Malian out of the first game back after the international break, the home clash against Birmingham City on October 10.
Diakite could play three games with Mali in the break after his international call.
EFL players will serve a one-match suspension if they collect five yellow cards until the 19th league match of the season. Albion have played seven games, with four wins and just one defeat.
