Shrewsbury Town's destiny in our own hands, says Jon Taylor

Midfielder Jon Taylor insists Shrewsbury must focus purely on their own results ahead of this weekend's trip to fellow strugglers Tranmere Rovers.

Taylor, who is Town's eight-goal top scorer, earned his side a big three points against another of their relegation rivals Stevenage last Saturday, with a well-taken 56th minute winner at the Greenhous Meadow.

Despite that win, Town remain two points from safety in the League One relegation zone because the three sides above them – Crewe, Tranmere and Carlisle – also won.

But Taylor insists the team will not be distracted by results elsewhere and that the table will take care of itself if they keep winning.

He said: "It was a great three points against Stevenage but we have just got to move on the next game now and think about Tranmere.

"We have just got to look after ourselves (and our results). We are playing teams around us so if we win those games then things will look after themselves.

"If we go to Tranmere and win the game on Saturday we will go above them so that is all that matters."

Taylor added he remains confident he can reach his goal target of 10 between now and the end of the season.

His focus remains solely on helping Town win games and picking up the points they need to escape the drop.

But after moving within two goals of his target, he believes he is capable of finishing the job in the team's remaining five games.

He said: "I go into the game to win it so if I don't score a goal and the team wins that is the most important thing, but I believe I can get double figures."

Taylor added Town will go into the trip to Tranmere in confident mood following their latest victory.

He added: "We have got to take the good things we did and work on the bad and take it into Tranmere."
