Shrewsbury Town miss out as transfer target joins League Two rivals
Stoke City forward Favour Fawunmi has joined Oldham Athletic.
Shrewsbury Town were dealt a transfer blow last night as target Favour Fawunmi completed a loan switch to League Two rivals Oldham Athletic.
Shrewsbury had been keen on a move for the Stoke City youngster, who featured as a trialist in Salop’s first pre-season outing.

Fawunmi has since featured in Stoke’s recent friendlies against Sheffield Wednesday in Austria and Everton earlier this week. The latest update from Shrewsbury boss Gavin Cowan was that the club remained “really keen” to secure the 20-year-old’s services.
However, Cowan admitted there were “logistics” surrounding a potential move, adding: “It’s one of them where we’re just trying to sort things out, if we’re in a position to do so.”
Any hopes of a deal were ended yesterday when Fawunmi was confirmed as Oldham’s latest signing, joining on a season-long loan.
The 20-year-old has also signed a new contract with Stoke, keeping him at the club until the end of the 2027/28 season.
He joins Oldham after spending the second half of last season on loan at League One side Leyton Orient. Fawunmi could play for Oldham against Shrewsbury at the Croud Meadow on November 14.
