Mike Jackson may ring the changes for Shrewsbury Town's clash against Colchester

Shrewsbury Town boss Mike Jackson has hinted at changes for tonight's vital League One basement battle at Colchester United.

With an eye to this evening's trip to Essex, Jackson rested in-form winger Paul Parry and midfielder Jon Taylor for Saturday's impressive 0-0 draw at league leaders Wolves.

And he may well ring the changes again this evening as Town hunt a big three points against their relegation rivals.

He said: "We might try to freshen things up. There are people capable of scoring in the team. It just having that confidence and belief when they get in there to keep their head.

"Sometimes at the moment we are getting a bit anxious and slashing at a couple of things, not getting the right connection on them whereas if you are a bit higher up the table you'd just stroke them in.

"You need that sort of calmness which Paul has got, and you've got the likes of Bahrudin Atajic as well who has got that. I'll take that into consideration when picking the team but it is going to be a 14-man game definitely."

Parry's move to the bench at the weekend was something of a surprise as the former Cardiff City man has been Town's most potent attacking player in recent games.

He has scored three goals in his last nine games, and two in his last three, and Jackson said it had been a difficult decision to leave him out.

He said: "Leaving Paul Parry out was the biggest one. He's a good pro and you could see that when he came on. He was trying to work for the team and graft."

Jackson is keen to build on Saturday's hard-earned reward.

"We've got to make sure we build on that. If we win tonight, that's a good return from two away games"
