Hungry Jon Taylor keen for taste of the action at Shrewsbury Town

Shrewsbury Town midfielder Jon Taylor believes his recent enforced rest has helped increase his hunger.

Taylor, who scored Town's equaliser in Saturday's 1-1 draw at Crewe, spent more than a month on the sidelines with a knee injury before rejoining the squad as a substitute for last weekend's defeat to Walsall.

And having made his first start for almost a month-and-a-half on Saturday, he said: "When I got injured I was disappointed to be missing all those games but I think I might have needed it.

"Football's a lot about being mentally prepared and leading up to games I think I didn't have as much confidence maybe because we weren't scoring so much as a team.

"But I had the break and I have come back, and I want it more than anything now. I know I can play well, I know I can work hard for the team, I know I can get myself going and I have got people around me to help me as well so I am happy.

"For my goal on Saturday I saw the play building up and made a good run. The ball went through and I got in between the two defenders.

"We all fell over but I wanted the goal so much that I got back up and hit it with my right, and luckily it went in."

Taylor was booked for taking his shirt off when celebrating the goal with the Town fans.

The 21-year-old, who insists he had planned the celebration beforehand, thanked the club's travelling supporters for their encouragement before and during the game.

He said: "The fans gave me goosebumps on Saturday. It was my first start back after a month-and-a-bit and before the game they really got me going.

"In the first half it got me going a bit too much and I was a bit too wild.

"But I said to myself at half-time that I just need to calm down a little bit but still work as hard. But they were absolutely excellent."

He added, though, that Town should have given them more than a point to celebrate at the Alexandra Stadium on Saturday.

The winger added: "I think we deserved more and we could have scored more.

"Obviously it's a point we have had to come from behind to get so we would have probably taken it at half-time but I think we deserved more."
