Gavin Cowan’s one-sentence answer to his Shrewsbury vision

Shrewsbury’s manager kept it simple when asked how he wants his team to look by the opening day.

Gavin Cowan gave a short but clear answer when outlining how he wants his Shrewsbury Town side to look by the opening day of the season.

Town’s pre-season preparations continue in the Isle of Man, where they are taking part in the island’s summer football festival.

The trip is all part of the build-up to their first competitive fixture of the campaign away to Salford City in the Carabao Cup in early August, before they begin their League Two season at Tranmere Rovers a week later.

Cowan has the opportunity to implement his ideas and playing style over the coming weeks as preparations for the new campaign continue.

When asked how he wanted his side to look by that opening competitive fixture, the Town boss kept his answer simple.

He said: “In short, full of energy, full of legs, athleticism, passion, desire, characters and committed.”

It was a response that neatly summed up the qualities Cowan is looking to instil in his squad.

The Town boss has already welcomed eight summer signings, with the latest arrivals being Aston Villa goalkeeper Sam Proctor and Luton Town forward Joe Gbode, who both joined on season-long loans.
