Gavin Cowan admits he wanted more Shrewsbury Town signings as transfer window nears end

Gavin Cowan reflected on the summer transfer window at Shrewsbury Town.

Boss Gavin Cowan admitted he would have liked to bring more signings through the door at Shrewsbury Town.

But Cowan confirmed Town are highly unlikely to make any further additions before the summer transfer window slams shut at 11pm tonight.

Salop have welcomed 11 recruits as part of Cowan’s rebuild, with five arriving on loan. Deadline day has been quiet for Town, and it looks set to stay that way.

Asked if Town could complete any late deals, Cowan said: “Maybe not, but I never shut the door on it.”

Kian McMahon-Brown and Lino Sousa became Town’s latest arrivals on Monday, both joining on season-long loans.

Cowan has made no secret of his desire to strengthen his attack and recruit a goalscorer. Speaking ahead of Shrewsbury’s clash with Rochdale, the Town boss revealed he had been working on further late additions.

“I would always love to do more,” he told BBC Shropshire. “I have been working extremely hard for the past 10 weeks.

“There will be a part of me that’s always overjoyed that this window will be over so I can focus on the team.

“I won’t deny that of course I would like to bring in more, I was hoping to bring in certain players.

“But we can only put our best foot forward, that’s what we do and we go into tonight’s game fully on the front foot, a lot of healthy bodies, and in a really good position in terms of recruitment.”
