Former Shrewsbury Town defender joins newly promoted European club
Ex-Town defender Nathanael Ogbeta has completed an overseas transfer after leaving Plymouth Argyle.
Former Shrewsbury Town defender Nathanael Ogbeta has completed a move abroad, joining newly promoted Portuguese side Maritimo.

The 25-year-old left-back has signed a two-year deal with the recently crowned Segunda Liga champions, who will compete in the Primeira Liga this season.

Ogbeta joins Maritimo following his departure from Plymouth Argyle. The defender was released by the Pilgrims in May at the end of his contract.
He was the first signing made by the club after Wayne Rooney was appointed head coach in May 2024.
After coming through the youth ranks at Manchester City, Ogbeta arrived at Salop in January 2021, signing an 18-month deal.
He made his debut in a 2-0 home win over Peterborough United and quickly attracted interest following an impressive first six months at the Croud Meadow.
A move failed to materialise that summer, but Championship side Swansea City completed a deal, believed to be worth around £300,000, on Deadline Day of the January 2022 transfer window.
The left-back later had loan spells with Peterborough United and Bolton Wanderers before joining Plymouth following his release by Swansea.
Ogbeta made 20 appearances for Argyle in his first season before spending the whole of last campaign on loan at Barnsley.
The former England youth international has now embarked on a new chapter in his career in Portugal. He has joined Marítimo’s pre-season training camp in Lousada as preparations continue for the club’s return to the Primeira Liga.
