Dave McAllister urges Shrewsbury Town's comeback kings to kick on

Shrewsbury Town goal hero Dave McAllister says Town cannot afford any more false starts in their battle against the drop.

McAllister netted a 70th-minute winner – his first goal in almost a year – for Town in Saturday's 3-2 triumph at fellow strugglers Notts County.

Town's last win had come eight games previously when they defeated Oldham Athletic away 2-1 on New Year's Day.

That victory failed to re-ignite Town's faltering form and McAllister warned that they must not allow the same thing to happen this time around.

He said: "We are hoping we are just going to bounce off this result and really kick on from it.

"We were hoping that when we won on New Year's Day against Oldham it would start us off, but it didn't really happen.

"But this is the one. And to win the way we did, coming back from two goals down to win 3-2, we really need to use it as a catalyst to kick on."

Despite the victory Town remain three points from safety in League One, albeit having risen a place to third-from-bottom on Saturday. But McAllister said there was no doubt in his mind that Shrewsbury can win their battle against relegation.

He said: "100 per cent, we definitely can get out of this. We have to believe.

"We have got 14 games left, and who says we can't get out of this? We firmly believe we can."

McAllister's goal at Meadow Lane was his first since March 2, when he netted in a 3-1 defeat against Walsall, but he was quick to share the praise for Saturday's win with midfielder Jon Taylor and striker Tom Eaves.

Like McAllister, both had been dropped to the bench the previous weekend but responded superbly against County.

Meanwhile, striker Tom Bradshaw was today ruled out for between 8-10 weeks with the knee injury he sustained in training.
