'Phenomenal' - Aston Villa keeper backed to rebound from Fulham blunder
The shot-stopper committed a costly error in Saturday’s match with Fulham.
Victor Lindelof has backed Zion Suzuki to quickly bounce back from his blunder in Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Fulham.
Suzuki dropped Alex Iwobi’s corner over the line as Unai Emery’s team were forced to settle for a point on Saturday night.
The Japan international goalkeeper had earlier made several big saves to preserve the lead given to Villa by Nicolas Jackson’s first half strike.
And defender Lindelof believes Suzuki, who has been impressive since joining Villa from Parma for £30million, has the mental strength to quickly get over the mistake.
“It is football, it happens,” said Lindelof. “He has been absolutely phenomenal since he arrived here and made great saves on Saturday.
“We have seen his quality on the ball as well. He will be disappointed with what happened but I think he will be OK.”
Lindelof conceded Villa’s second half performance had been below par after they failed to build on Jackson’s eighth goal since joining from Chelsea.
Skipper John McGinn had also earlier missed a penalty with the game goal-less.
There is little time to dwell, with Villa heading to Barcelona in the Champions League on Tuesday night.
"It felt like we weren't really ready for Fulham in the second half, which is not a good thing,” said Lindelof.
“There are a lot of games coming. We are disappointed now and that is OK.
“Tomorrow we can start looking ahead to the next game. It is going to be a fun one and hopefully we are ready for that as well.”
