‘It will come, but needs to soon’ - Boss reveals what AFC Telford United must fix after winless start

Kevin Wilkin admits his AFC Telford United side must forge their relationships quickly and find their spark soon.

The Bucks are still searching for their first win of the new National League North season after Saturday’s 1-1 draw against Hednesford Town.

Wilkin’s side sit 22nd with two points from their opening four matches ahead of a Bank Holiday double-header against Morecambe and Bedford Town.

Asked what he thinks is missing from his side at the moment, Wilkin told BBC Shropshire: “There’s a few players that I need to get to a better fitness level, so they can be more intense for longer periods of the game.

“Joining it up and just understanding in certain phases of play, what we need to do to go and do better.

“Lads need to understand there’s a lot of changes in the group, and just forging those relationships and combinations is important to us. It will come in time, but it needs to come soon. That’s where it is. We need to start picking points up.

“We should have won the opening game (Brackley Town). If we were sitting here on five points now we’d all be feeling a whole lot better about the situation.

“But I’m having to, with the players that we’ve got and what we can get in, find an improvement in players, which I think we’ve always done, and continue to do the right things.

“Like I said to the lads, we’ll continue to be consistent about what we do, the way we approach things, and hopefully improve levels of fitness within certain players that will make us more potent.”
