Bomere celebrate title win

Bomere Heath duly wrapped up the Rollinson Smith League with a thoroughly convincing win at home to bottom club Montgomery. Monty won the toss and batted first, no doubt aware that their improved performances of late have mostly come by setting a target.

On this occasion, however, they came across a pair of bowlers on top form - Andy McIlroy took 6-30 and Shane Cook 4-29 as the visitors were blown away for just 62 in 26 overs.

Cook was again to the fore in the reply, making 42 not out and, with Dave Langton also undefeated on 17, Bomere crossed the winning line in double quick time without loss.

Condover & Wroxeter pushed Bomere all the way and won their final match in their amalgamated format with a solid four wicket win at sixth placed Pontesbury.

Chasing Pontesbury's 153-9 in 45 overs, they were in trouble at 28-4.

Main contributors

But a century partnership between opener Matt Bevan (80no) and Paul Massey (45) put things right. And despite Toby Ward's three wickets they got home in the 40th over.

Earlier, Sean McCarthy (50) and Tom Ward (45) had been Pontesbury's main contributors with Jon Harris, Nick Bevan and Paul Massey sharing the wickets for the visitors.

Frankton finished third after holding off a strong challenge from British Sugar who posted 226-7 in 40 overs.

Frankton never looked like challenging this total and closed on 175-8, with Jordan Parry (63) scoring his maiden half century for the club.

The 18-9 winning draw lifts Sugar to fourth place, just three points behind the North Shropshire men.

Alberbury moved out of the top four and missed their chance of prize money when they lost by three wickets at home to Lilleshall.

Alberbury set a total of 165-8 from 45 overs thanks to 41 from Mark Jones and 27 from Angus Little.

Lilleshall duly won in the 41st over with Will Askin (32 no) scoring the winning runs. They remain in eighth spot, 17 points behind nearest club Much Wenlock, who also won in a run-chase.

They enjoyed an end of season jaunt at Cound as the two teams contrived to use no less than 20 bowlers.

Cound had posted an imposing 248-9 in their 40 overs, with Graham Trow (65) and Matt Jones (56) top scoring.

Steve Perks (106) and Gary Holland (73) guided Wenlock towards the target before both were out.

But the winning runs came in the 36th over for the loss of five wickets, despite Matt Jones returning by far the best figures of the day - 2-4 from 2.4 overs. That meant Cound finished in 10th place.

The teams either side of them, Llanidloes and Worfield, were in combat themselves and it was eleventh placed Worfield who came out on top. Llani posted 124 in 40 overs, Nick Jones being their best batsman with 25.

Dan Nicholson took 5-33 from 10 overs, while Will Moores chipped in with 3-29.

The home side romped home in the 31st over.

Bomere Heath and Montgomery will now exit division one from different ends and will be replaced by Trysull & Seisdon and Acton Reynald.strong> Popular stories:
