Shropshire stars face-off in final ahead of crunch county clash
All the latest action from across the county’s bowling greens.
Two of the Shropshire stars aiming to help win back the British Ladies County Championship on Sunday sharpened their competitive edge by meeting in an open final.

Shifnal team-mates Sonya Lucas and Sian Skelton contested the WR Davies Toyota Trench Ladies Singles title that attracted 23 entries - and it turned into an epic.
“Sonya won it after holding off a great fightback from Sian,” said promoter Rob Burroughs. “She raced 14-1 up but Sian levelled at 16 across and then led for the first time at 20-19 up, but Sonya then scored two singles to win the trophy and £200 first prize.
“In the semi-finals Sonya beat Jodie Taylor 11 from 15-4 up, while Sian defeated Beth Reeves 21-9 from 8-8.”
“Thankfully the weather was much better than last year , and thanks to all who played and to Trench for being great hosts.”
Shropshire Star Cup
Whitchurch League championship chasers Adderley are the top-ranked bowls team left in its main knockout tonight for the Shropshire Star Cup.
They take on Bridgewater at Wem with a 20-chalk handicap to overcome on an evening that also sees the last eight in the Presidents Cup for lower division sides take place at neutral venues.
Tonight’s other Shropshire Star quarter-final ties are Ash (+75) versus Hodnet (+60) at Tilstock, Chester Road (+80) against District (+70) at Malpas Farmers while Hadnall (+35) take on Malpas Farmers (+65) on the top green at Ellesmere.
In the Highley League, both Shifnal teams came through their semi-finals in the team knockouts to make it another big day for the club on finals day at Broseley on Sunday, September 27.
Meanwhile, tomorrow sees the Telford Ladies Afternoon League’s Champion of Champions at Sinclair with a 10am start for representatives of all 18 teams.
Tanners Shropshire League
It wasn’t just Mark and Jamie Parsons and Rhys Marshall who were the winners when the Tanners Shropshire Bowling League’s Tony Poole Triples was played at Monkmoor.
They beat Steve Ashton, Kieran Walker & Chris Jones in the final of a competition that was a winner too for the Severn Hospice with £190 raised thanks to donations from entry fees, the league and individuals on the day.
Ten teams of three took part with Jamie Brookes at the helm and the losing semi finalists were Mark Harris, Gary Neal & Danny Wornell and Dave Cadwallader, Julie & Rees Jones.
Meanwhile, the arrangements for the league’s centenary dinner on Saturday, October 10, at Shrewsbury Town are confirmed with each member club to be allocated four tickets for what a league official said was to be “a night of celebration and memories”.
