Shropshire bowling stars refuse to be blown off course by storms
All the latest action from across the county’s bowling greens.
Two named storms and conditions that made live streaming impossible threatened to blow the Allscott Heath Open off course.

But Shropshire senior team colleagues Callum Wraight and Tom Killen survived all the day could throw at them on the village club’s artificial green to contest the final.
And it was county No.1 Wraight (Castlefields) who added yet another tournament title to another super collection for the 2026 summer season by beating the Wrockwardine Wood man 21-15.
“Our impressive field of 32 weren’t just competing against each other, they were also battling Storms Austen and Boelo,” said club chairman Chris Hayward. “The weather conditions got progressively worse as the day went on and anyone who’s played on our all weather surface will tell you that the hardest condition to overcome is strong wind because of how it affects the bowls.
“That said, the draw still provided us with some exciting and close games and credit to the field for handling the conditions the best they could.”
Wraight, who won this competition in 2024, ousted Ben Dougal, Pauline Wilson, last year’s winner Joe Killen, and then Craig Wilson 21-15 in his semi final as he closed on the £300 first prize.
Killen’s route to the final saw him beat Richard Hill, Dave James, past winner Peter Farmer and then last year’s runner up Scott Harries 21-15 in his semi final.
“Congratulations Callum - in the toughest of conditions, you still showed your quality,” added Hayward.
