Defeat for leading pair with Shropshire Premier Bowls title to be decided on final night
See the round-up of the dramatic penultimate night with the crown still on the line this Friday.
Castlefields head into Friday’s final round of the Shropshire Premier Bowling League looking to a seal a third consecutive crown.

The Shrewsbury leaders are eyeing a hat-trick and 11 points at home to mid-table Wem USC will seal the deal over rivals Sir John Bayley.
Both teams suffered rare defeats last time out as Fields narrowly stumbled at fourth-placed Ifton and and Bayley failed to take advantage with a comprehensive defeat at impressive Woore.
Castlefields can confirm the title - no matter what Bayley do - with a thumping win at home to Wem - but should they drop more than four games to Wem, it would leave the door open for their rivals.
Bayley are six points adrift, with an inferior aggregate. They head on the road to south Shropshire and Burway, where only a big away victory and bonus winning points will do to test Castlefields’ nerve.
Fields were champions from Telford rivals Bayley by a 13-point margin last season. The title was remarkably decided on aggregate in 2024 as the sides tied on 272 points.
The champions elect head into the final round having won one more fixture than their chasers, and lost two fewer.
Just Castlefields’ second defeat of the season - and first since May 1 against Bayley - came 7-5 at Ifton last time out, who have consolidated fourth with the win.
A thrilling 205-200 aggregate encounter saw Oliver Jones (21-9) star for the hosts. Andrew Armstrong (21-9) was Castlefields’ best result as they took a welcome five points despite defeat.
Bayley disappointed 9-3 (224-163) at Woore, who look set to finish fifth in a debut top flight campaign.
Woore’s Andrew Moss (21-3) and Paul Phillips (21-9) recorded fine wins on a penultimate night in which the chasers lost ground.
Wrockwardine Wood impressed to cement third with an 8-4 (219-186) success at home to Meole Brace, in eighth.
Clay Flattley (21-5), Will Childs (21-8) and Chris Grocott (21-9) carded wins.
Rock-bottom Bylet will face a relegation play-off after the season’s conclusion. They were beaten heavily 11-1 (251-140) at Burway, for whom Harry Parsonage (21-4) won well. Cheryl Caswell (21-20) was Bylet’s sole winner.
Second-bottom Adderley are 37 points clear despite being beaten 9-3 (225-188) at Wem. Bylet travel to Adderley on Friday but cannot make up the ground.
Highley, in seventh, picked up an impressive away win at St Georges in 11th. The visitors prevailed on aggregate 229-192 after a 6-6 draw in games.
Results such as Dave Scriven (21-4) and Paul Busby (21-5) did the damage.
Hanwood, in sixth, beat 12th-placed Hanmer comprehensively 11-1 (248-172) at home.
Other final night fixtures include Ifton at Hanwood, Wrockwardine Wood’s trip to Highley and Meole Brace at home to Woore.
