'This is not the right thing for our community': Fears over plans for new homes in north Shropshire village

Residents have raised concerns over plans to add new homes to a village near Market Drayton.

Earlier this month, plans to build new homes on a three-and-a-half-acre plot of agricultural land off Wood Lane in Hinstock, near Market Drayton, were submitted to Shropshire Council.

While the number of new homes will be decided at a later date, preliminary designs for the site suggest the space is capable of hosting around 21 homes.

That number of houses would make it a "low-density scheme" which Halls Land and Development Promotions said would "reflect the status of the village and the edge-of-village location".

But some local residents appear not to be convinced, with 11 having taken to the council's planning portal to voice their concerns.

Among them are fears over flooding, potential increase in traffic and concerns that local services would not be able to cope with the increase in population.

One resident, Ms Arnold, wrote: "Hinstock is a small rural village which consists of a primary school, village hall and shop. Our nearest doctors and pharmacists are five miles away in Market Drayton, our closest hospitals are Telford and Shrewsbury.

"The planning application for an additional 21 homes will have a considerable impact on our small school and will put excessive pressure on our already strained NHS services."

Mrs Gittings added: "The village of Hinstock is big enough for the present residents and increasing this would only over-populate this community and all its services. This is not the right thing for our community."

The proposal, which is open for public consultation until February 5, is available to view online on Shropshire Council's planning portal (reference number 25/04708/OUT).
