8. Oswestry, 1969
Richard Jones and Sons butchers in Leg Street, Oswestry, where traditional hand-raised pork pies were being prepared. The business, owned by Mrs Anne Jones, gained international attention after the editor of a worldwide food magazine visited and featured their high-quality produce. Mrs Jones attributed the pies’ success to traditional recipes with “special” secret additions. Pictured at work hand-raising the pies are Frank Holgate, Mrs Jones, and Mrs May Hardman, on October 7, 1969. | Shropshire Star
